Beautiful lashes completely transform a look — they open up the eyes, refine features and add brightness to the face without any makeup at all. But with so many options on the market, the question is always the same: lash lift or lash extensions?
Both are excellent options, but for very different profiles. At Emma Centre we help you understand the real differences so you can choose the one that best fits your daily life, your lifestyle and your natural lashes.
What Is a Lash Lift?

A lash lift is a treatment that curls and lifts your natural lashes from the root, creating a long-lasting eye-opening effect that is completely natural. No artificial lashes are added — the result is worked entirely with your own.
The process uses a gentle chemical solution that moulds the lash over a curved silicone rod, setting the shape. It's usually accompanied by a lash tint to intensify the colour and give a mascara-like effect without needing to apply any.
The result: curled, lifted and beautifully visible lashes — 24 hours a day, even in the water, at the gym and first thing in the morning.
What Are Lash Extensions?
Lash extensions involve attaching individual artificial lashes (made from silk, synthetic mink or special fibres) one by one onto each natural lash, using a professional long-lasting adhesive.
There are several techniques:
Classic extensions (1:1): one extension per natural lash. Natural, elegant result.
Volume extensions: several fine extensions per natural lash, creating a denser, more dramatic effect.
Hybrid extensions: a combination of classic and volume. The most popular technique for everyday wear — adds density without being excessive.
The result is immediate and striking: a defined, voluminous look with length far beyond what natural lashes can offer on their own.
Head-to-Head: Lash Lift vs Lash Extensions
Lash Lift | Lash Extensions | |
Result | Natural, own lashes curled | Added volume and length |
Longevity | 6-8 weeks | 3-4 weeks (with infills) |
Maintenance | None — until they grow out | Infills every 3-4 weeks |
Session time | 45-60 minutes | 90-120 minutes |
Daily care | Practically none | Avoid oil, rubbing, excess moisture |
Suitability | All lash types | Needs sufficiently long natural lashes |
Look without makeup | Very natural | Full-on look with nothing on |
Best for | Active lifestyle, low maintenance | Maximum visual impact |
When Is a Lash Lift the Better Choice?
A lash lift is the ideal option if:
You have an active lifestyle — you exercise regularly, swim, hike or travel often. A lash lift handles physical activity and moisture perfectly without any special care.
You want maximum convenience — once it's done, you don't have to think about it. No infills, no special products, no daily precautions.
You prefer a natural result — a lash lift enhances your real lashes without adding anything artificial. Perfect for people who prefer a more subtle, natural aesthetic.
You have light-coloured lashes — combined with a tint, a lift completely transforms barely-visible lashes without any extension needed.
You want to save time and money long-term — one session every 6-8 weeks is far less frequent and less costly than maintaining extensions.
When Are Lash Extensions the Better Choice?
Lash extensions are the ideal option if:
You want maximum visual impact — extensions deliver a spectacular result that a lash lift simply can't match in terms of volume, length and drama.
Your natural lashes are very fine or short — extensions compensate for a lack of natural volume or length immediately.
You have a special event or a particular season coming up — a wedding, holidays, or a period when you want to look your best every day without effort.
You don't mind the upkeep — if infills every 3-4 weeks fit comfortably into your routine and budget, extensions could become your go-to treatment.
You want to wake up looking polished every day — with well-applied extensions, you need absolutely no eye makeup whatsoever.
Can You Alternate Between the Two?
Yes, but with one important caveat: extensions require your natural lashes to be in good condition. Extended use of extensions without breaks can weaken the natural lash. A lash lift, on the other hand, adds no weight or stress to the lash.
A very common approach among our clients is:
Extensions for special seasons (summer, Christmas, weddings...)
Lash lift for everyday wear and as a recovery treatment between extension cycles
What the Treatment Is Like at Emma Centre
Lash lift: The session lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. You lie back comfortably while the treatment is applied — completely painless. We usually include the lash tint to enhance the result. You leave with a transformed look and no special aftercare required.
Lash extensions: The first full session lasts between 90 and 120 minutes. We work lash by lash with precision to guarantee a natural, long-lasting result. Subsequent infill appointments last between 45 and 60 minutes.
In both cases we use high-quality professional products, formulated to minimise the risk of allergic reaction and maximise longevity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a lash lift damage natural lashes? Done correctly and with the right products, a lash lift does not damage lashes. We recommend waiting at least 6-8 weeks between sessions to allow the lash to complete its natural growth cycle.
Do lash extensions cause natural lash loss? When applied correctly and properly maintained, extensions should not cause lash loss. Problems arise when extensions are poorly applied, natural lashes are pulled when removing them, or they are worn continuously without any rest periods.
Can I wear mascara with a lash lift? Yes, though it's usually not necessary. If you want a more intense effect for a special occasion, you can apply mascara without any problem. Avoid waterproof formulas, which can be difficult to remove.
Can I wear mascara with lash extensions? It's not recommended. Mascara can stick extensions together and complicate maintenance. One of the main benefits of extensions is precisely that you don't need it.
How long does a lash lift last? Between 6 and 8 weeks, depending on your natural lash growth cycle. As your natural lashes grow and renew themselves, the curl gradually fades.
Can I have a lash lift if I wear contact lenses? Yes. You'll need to remove them during the session, but you can put them back in as soon as it's finished.
Your Best Look, Every Day
Both lash lifts and lash extensions are treatments that transform your look with immediate results. The key is choosing the option that fits your life — not just the one that looks best in photos.
At Emma Centre we're happy to advise you with no commitment, to find the best option for your lashes and your lifestyle.
